Paul Passaway resigns-01/06/14
Ladies team manager has resigned from his post as Bitton Ladies manager
Paul led the side to its best ever season securing a league and cup double in his first season in charge which saw them secure a place in the South west Womnens league for the first time. Despite a very promising start lack of player commitment meant the side struggled to field a side every week and eventually finished 5th.
Everyone at Bitton would like to thank Paul for his great work
Statement from Paul below
It is with great sadness that I have to send this email as notice of my resignation as manager of Bitton Ladies Football team with immediate effect. I have enjoyed most of the last two years managing the ladies team and have appreciated all the support forwarded to me from the club. I will not be looking to take a position on in ladies football again so class this as a notice of retirement from the ladies game as well.
The reasons are two fold, firstly I have managed ladies and girls for the last 15 years and the motivation and commitment to drive the team or myself for another year is just lacking, I've given myself a few weeks to see if the drive comes back following a very hard season but unfortunately it's just not happened.
Secondly I have great concerns that the ladies/girls game is in decline due to a lack of teams at girls level locally and the women's summer league taking all the publicity and enthusiasm. I was one of the driving forces in creating the Gloucester County girls league in 2000, taking on the positions of secretary and chairman over a 7 year period but I've noticed from a distance that it's in decline which will effect the ladies game going forward.
I've tried to get players in from other clubs in recent weeks but the lack of commitment to sign or even a slight commitment leads me to feel that it will again be a struggle to field a side week on week. As I said previously, if I had more drive then maybe I would have more determination to get the players required, but I don't so I feel it's only right to let somebody else come in to take the ladies team forward.
Again I would like to thank you all for your support and wish you all and the new chairman Shawn Edwards all the best for the future.
Kind regards
Paul Passaway
